First Florida Man Games to Kick Off in February Featuring Unique Contests and Celebrity Judges

The "Florida Man Games," based on the infamously bizarre news stories known as the "Florida Man" meme, will see 16 teams fight for victory in contests including an "evading arrest" obstacle course, beer belly wrestling and a mud duel with pool noodles, monitored by former American Gladiator stars turned judges, at Francis Field in downtown St. Augustine on February 24, 2024.

  • The first-ever Florida Man Games will be held in St. Augustine, Florida, on February 24, 2024. The competition will feature a series of events inspired by 'Florida Man' news stories and will be judged by former American Gladiators stars 'Nitro' and 'Ice'.
  • The games include an 'evading arrest' obstacle course where contestants are chased by real police officers, a 'category 5 cash grab' in which participants try to grab as much money as possible while inside a wind machine, and a 'beer belly Florida sumo' wrestling contest.
  • Registration for the games is open now, with 16 teams of five selected to participate in the main events. Teams are required to submit a video explaining why they should be chosen. Extra games like a mechanical alligator ride and obstacle course will be available for others to participate in.
  • In addition to the main events, there will be a range of entertainment options, including the opportunity to take photos with alligators, a mullet contest, and chicken coop bingo. Tickets for the event are priced between $45 and $145.
  • The event, organized by Pete Melfi of St. Johns County-based media outlet The 904 Now, aims to celebrate the strange and newsworthy incidents often associated with Florida, represented by the 'Florida Man' meme. The 'Florida Man' concept has been circulating since 2013 and is associated with bizarre news stories emanating from the state.
