First DWP Cold Weather Payments Hit Bank Accounts

Eligible claimants receive automatic £25 payments when their area records seven consecutive days at 0°C or below.

Overview

  • DWP says about 1.5 million households will qualify this winter for payments of £25 or £50 per triggered cold period.
  • Payments appear on statements with the reference “DWP CWP” and are issued without an application.
  • So far, 802 postcode areas in England, Wales and Northern Ireland have been triggered, with a dated postcode list published by the DWP.
  • The first payouts relate to cold spells recorded from December 30 and early January, with funds typically paid within 14 days.
  • Some areas have already met the temperature threshold twice, so eligible residents there will receive a second £25 payment.
