First Direct Germany–Libya Flights in Over a Decade Launch From Düsseldorf

The airport bills the new Düsseldorf–Tripoli link as a bridge for family ties and project work beyond tourism.

Overview

  • Medsky Airways began nonstop service between Düsseldorf and Tripoli’s Mitiga, restoring a Germany–Libya air link absent since 2014.
  • The carrier plans two flights a week on Fridays and Sundays using Airbus A320 aircraft with a flight time of about three hours.
  • Düsseldorf Airport says the route is meant for Libya’s diaspora in Germany as well as firms, NGOs, and institutions working on energy, infrastructure, health, and development projects.
  • Airport leaders marked the launch with a gate ceremony that included Pradeep Pinakatt, Ulrich Topp, Medsky CEO Seraj Elfitore, and chairman Abubakar Elfortia.
  • Earlier direct flights on Afriqiyah Airways ran from 2007 to 2011 with a brief 2012 restart before service stopped in 2014 during Libya’s civil conflict.
