First Deck Assembled for Magic Kingdom Ferryboat

Disney says on-property finishing will take about a year toward a 2027 debut.

Overview

  • Aerial photos published Monday show the new ferryboat’s lower deck fully formed in bare primer at a backstage marina north of Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
  • So far only the first (lower) deck is in place; vertical assembly of the second deck and the superstructure are the next major construction steps.
  • Disney confirmed the vessel was built in pieces off-site in Florida, shipped to Walt Disney World, and will undergo about a year of on-property assembly, painting, and testing before entering service.
  • Work has begun on expanding the Magic Kingdom ferry dock to handle the larger fleet, and Disney has named the boat the Meg Gilbert Crofton while color and branding details remain unannounced.
  • The fourth ferry will join three existing boats to boost transport capacity to the Seven Seas Lagoon and could improve boarding frequency and crowd flow when it debuts in 2027.
