First Bob Ross Benefit Auction Nets Over $600,000 for Public TV

Net proceeds will bolster public TV budgets after 2025 federal cuts.

Overview

  • At Bonhams in Los Angeles on Nov. 11, three Ross originals sold for a combined $661,900.
  • “Winter’s Peace” fetched $318,000, “Home in the Valley” sold for $229,100, and “Cliffside” went for $114,800, with buyer identities not disclosed.
  • Bonhams says all net proceeds will go to American Public Television and PBS stations nationwide.
  • The Los Angeles sale opened a 30-painting campaign; the next auction is Jan. 27 in Marlborough, with additional sales planned in New York and London.
  • Organizers launched the series after Congress, at the Trump administration’s urging, eliminated $1.1 billion for public broadcasting, and Bonhams estimates the full series could raise $850,000 to $1.4 million.
