Overview
- The expedition marks the first documented retrieval from the 1916 wreck, which lies about 120 meters down off the Greek island of Kea.
- Recovered items include the ship’s bell, navigation lamps, silver serving trays, ceramic tiles, a porcelain basin, and a White Star Line–stamped plate.
- Eleven deep divers worked in strong currents and poor visibility, using lift bags to bring objects carefully to the surface.
- The operation was organized by Britannic historian Simon Mills in coordination with the Greek Ministry of Culture.
- The artifacts are being conserved in Athens and are slated to become a focal exhibit at the new Museum for Underwater Archaeology in Piraeus.
