Overview
- On Nov. 5 groups of youths across Scotland and England launched fireworks and started small bonfires that attacked emergency crews, one police vehicle was set alight in Glasgow and an ambulance worker suffered a minor injury.
- Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and local brigades reported multiple bin, grass and bonfire blazes that in some cases forced crews to withdraw because fireworks and objects were directed at appliances.
- Police made dozens of arrests tied to the night’s disorder, including 11 at the Lewes bonfire, 12 across West Yorkshire and several teenagers arrested after a large firework incident in Huddersfield.
- Ambulance and first‑aid teams treated many people at events such as Lewes where 52 were treated and four taken to hospital, adding to the operational strain on blue‑light services.
- Operation Amberlight used mutual aid from Avon and Somerset, Hampshire, Hertfordshire and South Wales and police say patrols and enquiries will continue as forces pursue enforcement and safety messaging to deter repeat violence.
