Firework Thrown at Pushchair Injures Girl, 3, in North Shields Bonfire Night Disorder

The toddler received care at a Newcastle burns unit before being discharged.

Overview

  • Three-year-old Nevaeh Porter-Baggott was struck when a firework exploded under her buggy on the Meadow Well estate in North Shields on November 5.
  • Her parents say a large hooded group on Avon Avenue was throwing fireworks and lighting small fires as the family headed to an organised display.
  • Nevaeh sustained burns and red marks, was assessed at North Tyneside General Hospital, then treated at the Royal Victoria Infirmary's specialist unit, and was sent home with no serious injury reported.
  • Mother Freya Keenan, 20, who is 15 weeks pregnant, and father Dane Porter Baggott, 24, described their daughter as frightened and jumpy after the incident.
  • The family is urging action to tackle disorder on the estate, and reporters say Northumbria Police were contacted for comment with no response included.
