Fires and Crashes Snarl UK Motorways Over Three Days as Routes Reopen

Fresh incidents are still disrupting travel despite most closures lifting.

Overview

  • Essex Police are appealing for witnesses after a multi‑vehicle collision on the A12 near Junction 28 in Colchester left a woman in hospital, with one southbound lane reopened and debris clearance ongoing.
  • Police separately confirmed a lorry driver’s medical episode caused an A12 southbound blockage between Junctions 19 and 18 around 9:05am, with the incident resolved about 90 minutes later.
  • The M58 westbound closed between Junctions 4 and 3 after reports a man fell from a motorway bridge, with an air ambulance attending and the eastbound side briefly halted during the response.
  • National Highways closed the M60 clockwise link at Junction 4 to the M56 westbound following a collision, directing drivers to continue to Junction 5 and use the A5103 to rejoin the M56 at Junction 3.
  • On Wednesday evening the M53 shut in both directions between Junctions 6 and 7 for a serious crash involving one car before all lanes reopened by about 7:30pm and delays cleared.
