Overview
- The blaze broke out on Tuesday at an industrial unit on Sturmer Road just outside Haverhill that is thought to have been used as a car showroom.
- At the height of the response around 50 firefighters from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service and Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service worked at the scene.
- Suffolk sent five engines and an officer to support the operation while crews worked through the afternoon to bring the fire under control.
- Crews faced a poor water supply and used a water bowser to shuttle water from a nearby river to sustain firefighting and damp down the scene.
- An official investigation has been opened to establish the cause and authorities will examine the site once it is declared safe, with any further actions to follow from findings.
