Fired Cancer Center Director Sues NYU Langone Health Over Social Media Posts

Dr. Benjamin Neel alleges he was terminated for reposting content criticizing support for violence against Israelis, seeking $500,000 in damages.

Dr. Benjamin Neel, the former director of the Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Cancer Center at NYU Langone Health, has filed a lawsuit against the hospital and New York University, claiming he was fired for reposting social media content that criticized people who supported violence toward Israelis.
The lawsuit was filed in response to the hospital's decision to terminate Neel's contract, which was supposed to last until the end of 2025, following patient and employee complaints about his social media posts.
Neel's posts were made in the wake of the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel, which left 1,200 Israelis dead and another 240 taken hostage.
The lawsuit accuses NYU Langone Health of attempting to appear impartial by firing Neel shortly after it fired another physician who had posted content celebrating the Hamas attack on Israel.
Neel is seeking at least $500,000 in damages and a jury trial.
