Fire Guts Small Plastic-Sheet Unit in Thane, No Injuries

A civic probe has been opened as teams assess heavy damage to machinery, raw stock and the collapsed roof at the factory.

Overview

  • SRK Traders, a roughly 1,200-square-foot plastic sheet unit in Pandey Industrial Estate, caught fire on Sunday morning and firefighters extinguished the blaze after about 40 minutes.
  • No workers were reported injured but all machinery and raw materials inside the unit were destroyed and the corrugated cement roof shattered or collapsed.
  • Thane Fire Brigade, the Regional Disaster Management Cell, local police and MSEDCL responded with two fire engines, rescue vehicles, RDMC pickups and a jumbo water tanker to contain the fire.
  • Civic officials said losses run into the lakhs and have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause while teams continue on-site damage assessment.
  • The loss will halt production at the small unit and may prompt claims and local safety reviews for similar workshops in the industrial estate.
