Fire Extinguished at Exeter City’s St James Park After Electrical Fault Triggers Blaze

A formal investigation into the electrical failure now guides safety checks that will determine stadium operations.

Overview

  • Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called at 10:10pm on November 12 after flames were reported at the ground.
  • The blaze began in an electrical consumer unit and spread to a nearby portacabin and an outside storage area.
  • About 60% of the portacabin was damaged, with electrical cupboards and the stadium’s electrical intake also affected.
  • Crews used multiple appliances, breathing apparatus, hose reel jets, ventilation fans and thermal imaging cameras to bring the incident under control.
  • The fire was put out overnight with the response scaled back, no injuries were reported, and assessments of any stand damage are pending.
