Fire Engulfs Electronics Showroom in Uttam Nagar

Rapid containment by Delhi Fire Services has prompted an official probe into the blaze’s basement origin and possible safety lapses.

Overview

  • A major fire broke out at an electronics showroom in Uttam Nagar on Wednesday, July 1, and Delhi Fire Services said the blaze was brought under control by about 6:30 AM.
  • Firefighters deployed a large response with more than 15 fire tenders and roughly 75 personnel to douse flames and begin cooling operations.
  • Officials say the fire started in the basement of the ground-plus-three-storey building and spread across about 350 square yards, damaging electronic goods, electrical items, furniture and fixtures on multiple floors.
  • Authorities reported no casualties or injuries at the scene and said investigators are working to determine the exact cause and whether the site was a Vijay Sales showroom as some reports claim.
  • The incident follows another restaurant fire within 24 hours and last month’s deadly hotel blaze in Delhi, renewing scrutiny of building safety, emergency access in narrow lanes and enforcement of fire-prevention rules.
