Fire Destroys Seven Hydrogen Buses at Belfort Depot, Residents Temporarily Confined

A major overnight blaze at a hydrogen bus facility in Danjoutin led to explosions, precautionary confinement, and significant financial losses.

The fire broke out at approximately 2:20 AM on January 2, 2025, at the Optymo hydrogen bus depot in Danjoutin, Territoire de Belfort.
Seven hydrogen-powered buses, valued at around €700,000 each, were completely destroyed, causing substantial financial damage.
Residents near the site were temporarily confined to their homes due to concerns about air quality, though atmospheric tests later showed no health risks.
The hydrogen fueling station adjacent to the depot was not impacted, and no significant environmental damage has been reported so far.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, which required over six hours and a large firefighter response to extinguish.
