Overview
- Mumbai Police registered the FIR on December 3 under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing death by a rash and negligent act.
- Project operation head Satish Kumar Satyanarayan Maladi and site safety officer Mahesh Shivaji Sawant of Kargwal Construction Pvt. Ltd. were named as accused.
- Investigators reported no signboards, barricading or security at the New Fish Jetty demolition site, which they say directly led to the accident.
- The victim, Jayprakash Chhotelal Sharma, 63, drove off the old, partially demolished jetty on November 13 and was later declared dead at Sir J.J. Hospital.
- Police initially filed an accidental death report and then, after an inquiry led by PI Ravindra Mohite, traced responsibility through the Mumbai Port Authority’s contract with Kargwal and the demolition work by R B Dande Associates.
