Finnair Puts One A321 Back in Service After Seat-Cover Safety Alert as Seven Remain Grounded

The pause followed a supplier warning that water washing had not been verified to preserve the seat covers’ fire protection.

Overview

  • Finnair temporarily suspended eight A321s after learning the cleaning method for seat covers had not been properly verified for fire safety.
  • One of the grounded aircraft returned to service on Sunday with additional jets expected back after replacement seat covers are installed.
  • Operational disruption has eased, with a report listing only two Finnair rotations canceled on Monday: AY803 HelsinkiStockholm and AY1339 Helsinki–London Heathrow.
  • To limit cancellations, Finnair has warned of aircraft swaps, possible overbooking, and some services operated by Lithuanian carrier DAT LT under wet lease.
  • Reports indicated roughly 70 cancellations affecting close to 9,000 passengers, and the airline has reminded affected travelers of their EC 261/2004 rights.
