Finland Cuts Steel for Third Pohjanmaa-Class Corvette, Putting Three of Four Into Production

The milestone keeps Finland’s Squadron 2020 program on schedule for staged commissioning from 2027 to 2029.

Overview

  • Rauma Marine Constructions began hull work with a steel-cutting ceremony on August 26, 2025, marking construction start for the third ship.
  • The lead Pohjanmaa-class corvette was launched in May 2025 and is undergoing outfitting and systems installation.
  • Production of the second vessel started in October 2024 and its hull is currently in assembly.
  • The ice-capable corvettes are designed for Baltic operations with Saab integrating the combat system and planned fit including ESSM, Gabriel V missiles and Torpedo 47.
  • Construction takes place in a closed facility at the Rauma shipyard that meets NATO security standards following significant investments by the yard, with overall program completion planned by 2029.
