Fincke, Cardman to Lead Thursday ISS Spacewalk as NASA Schedules Second EVA for Jan. 15

Live coverage begins at 6:30 a.m. EST to highlight upgrades that increase station power, supporting a safe deorbit.

Overview

  • The Jan. 8 spacewalk is set to start at 8 a.m. EST, last about six and a half hours, and stream on NASA+, Amazon Prime, and YouTube with coverage beginning at 6:30 a.m.
  • Mike Fincke and Zena Cardman will exit the Quest airlock to prepare the station’s 2A power channel for future roll-out solar arrays.
  • It will be Cardman’s first spacewalk and Fincke’s 10th, tying him for the most by a NASA astronaut; Fincke will wear red stripes and Cardman an unmarked suit.
  • A follow-on EVA on Jan. 15 is scheduled for 7:10 a.m. EST to replace a high-definition camera, install a planar reflector on Harmony’s forward port, and relocate an early ammonia servicer jumper and other truss jumpers; NASA will name the crew after the Jan. 8 outing.
  • These will be U.S. spacewalks 94 and 95 and the 278th and 279th ISS spacewalks overall, marking the first of 2026 and the first by Expedition 74.
