Finance Minister Showcases Madhubani Art in Budget Day Saree

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman wore a Madhubani art saree gifted by Bihar-based artist Dulari Devi during her 2025 Budget presentation, highlighting India's rich textile heritage.
The saree, adorned with fish-themed embroidery, symbolizes the traditional folk art of the Mithila region and reflects the intricate craftsmanship of Madhubani painting.
Dulari Devi, a self-taught artist from a marginalized fisherman community, has trained over 1,000 artists and uses her work to address social issues like child marriage and gender inequality.
Sitharaman's gesture was celebrated as a tribute to Mithila's cultural legacy, with politicians and citizens praising her for honoring Bihar's artisans on a national platform.
In addition to her sartorial statement, Sitharaman announced initiatives like a 'Makhana Board' and irrigation projects to support farmers and entrepreneurs in the Mithila region of poll-bound Bihar.
