Overview
- The CEC approved felling, pruning and transplantation to enable completion of the 3.5 km link between Sarai Kale Khan and Mayur Vihar Phase-I.
- Post-survey counts show 155 trees affected in the central division (10 felled or dry, 34 transplanted, 111 retained with light pruning on 107) and 178 in the south division (75 felled or dry, 53 transplanted, 50 retained with pruning on 13).
- PWD says teams will immediately mark, prune and transplant under Forest Department supervision and finish remaining carriageways, loops and non-motorised infrastructure.
- The corridor uses an elevated pier-supported structure with an extra-dosed bridge to minimise piers in the Yamuna flow zone, providing three lanes each way, eight loops and dedicated cycle tracks and footpaths.
- Officials now estimate the cost at about Rs 1,330 crore, with expected benefits including decongestion of NH-24, the DND Flyway and Ring Road, better access to nearby transit hubs and an estimated CO2 reduction of around 2 tonnes per day.
