Final Suspect in 2022 Philadelphia High School Shooting Arrested After Over a Year on the Run
17-year-old Dayron Burney-Thorn, also linked to a separate homicide incident, captured in Philadelphia's Germantown; tried to evade arrest by jumping from a four-story building, resulting in injuries.
- Dayron Burney-Thorn, the fifth and final suspect involved in a fatal shooting incident at Roxborough High School in Philadelphia in 2022, has been apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service, following a manhunt of over a year.
- The 17-year-old was found in the Germantown neighborhood in Philadelphia and attempted to escape by jumping out of a fourth-floor window, resulting in undisclosed injuries and subsequent medical treatment.
- The lethal ambush, which took place after a football scrimmage at the high school, resulted in the death of 14-year-old Nicolas Elizalde and injuries to several other teens.
- The altercation included five individuals who jumped out of a parked SUV and opened fire on a group of teens exiting an athletic field, killing Elizalde, and injuring multiple others, although it is believed Elizalde was not an intended target.
- The manhunt for Burney-Thorn, who was also involved in an additional homicide incident the day before the high school shooting, involved a reward increased to $50,000 put forth by the U.S. Marshals Eastern Pennsylvania Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force.
