Final Supermoon of 2024 Set to Illuminate Skies This Week

This year's last supermoon, known as the Beaver Moon, will appear larger and brighter as it reaches its closest point to Earth on November 15.

The Beaver Moon will be the fourth and final supermoon of 2024, visible from November 13 to 17, peaking on November 15 at 4:29 PM EST.
Supermoons occur when the moon is at its closest point to Earth during a full moon, appearing up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than usual.
Named after the beaver's winter preparations, the Beaver Moon follows the Blue, Harvest, and Hunter's moons from earlier this year.
While the term 'supermoon' is unofficial, it describes the moon's perigee phase, when it is approximately 225,000 miles from Earth.
The next series of supermoons will not occur until October 2025, offering three consecutive opportunities to view this astronomical event.
