Overview
- The Saint Thomas figure, standing three meters tall and weighing just over 100 kilograms, was blessed by Archbishop Laurent Ulrich before being craned into place on July 24.
- This installation completes the set of sixteen bronze-patinated copper statues sculpted by Adolphe-Victor Geoffroy-Dechaume to Viollet-le-Duc’s 1857 design, representing the twelve apostles and four evangelist symbols.
- All sixteen sculptures escaped the April 2019 fire thanks to their removal days before the blaze and underwent meticulous restoration in Dordogne.
- The reinstallation follows a phased process inaugurated on June 23 with the hoisting of Saint Paul, marked by ceremonial blessings and precision crane lifts.
- Once the spire’s scaffolding is dismantled at the end of August, the fully restored statues will restore Notre-Dame’s historic skyline.
