Final Renovation Phase on Willy-Brandt-Straße Kicks Off August 4

Authorities are condensing road, footpath, power line upgrades into a six-day workweek to minimize downtown congestion.

Overview

  • The final rehabilitation of the Willy-Brandt-Straße segment between Domstraße and the Deichtortunnel runs from August 4 until spring 2026.
  • During construction westbound traffic will generally have two lanes open while eastbound maintains at least one, with temporary full closures at Brandstwiete, Meßberg and Deichtorplatz ramps.
  • Dovenfleet will operate as an eastbound one-way street and the Deichtortunnel will close briefly during the autumn school break.
  • Sidewalks and bicycle paths are set for modernization while Hamburger Energienetze installs a new high-voltage line between Umspannwerk Mitte and Tiefstack.
  • Work crews will operate six days per week plus select weekends and holidays using multiple teams to accelerate progress and limit peak-hour disruptions.
