Overview

• U.S. Marshals, the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, Louisiana State Police, the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, New Orleans police and Atlanta police coordinated the arrest.
• Authorities took Groves into custody after a brief standoff at a residence near Delowe Drive SW and W. Cedar Lane SW in southwest Atlanta.
• With Groves detained, all 10 inmates who escaped the Orleans Parish Justice Center in May are back in custody, ending the months-long manhunt.
• Investigators say the May 16 breakout exploited faulty security as inmates removed a toilet and crawled through a hole in the cell wall before fleeing the facility.
• Groves was convicted in 2024 of second-degree murder for opening fire at a Mardi Gras block party and was serving a life sentence without parole.
