Final Fantasy XIV Free Switch 2 Subscription Window Ends Sept. 7

The change forces Switch 2 players to buy a separate platform‑specific subscription paid with FFXIV Coins from the Nintendo eShop.

Overview

  • Square Enix said the launch promotional waiver for the Switch 2 full version will end on Monday, September 7 at 11:59 p.m. local time and a 30‑day free play period for new Starter or Complete Edition registrations will begin on September 8.
  • Playing on Switch 2 requires its own FFXIV subscription even if you already subscribe on another platform, but active subscribers on other platforms can buy the Switch 2 subscription at half price.
  • Subscription payments and optional in‑game purchases on Switch 2 must use FFXIV Coins bought through the Nintendo eShop, and automatic renewals only work if your FFXIV Coins balance has enough funds.
  • A known bug prevented the game launcher from redirecting players to the eShop to buy FFXIV Coins and Square Enix plans to fix it in Patch 7.56 on September 8; the company published a HOME‑menu workaround for immediate purchases.
  • The Free Trial remains available up to level 80 for players who never upgrade, but upgrading to a full service account is irreversible and the Switch 2 launch followed work to improve loading and stability for large install and crowded instances.
