Final Days to Link Aadhaar and PAN Before Unlinked PANs Turn Inoperative on January 1

Link on the Income Tax e-filing portal using Aadhaar OTP, with a ₹1,000 charge applying for delayed activation.

Overview

  • The CBDT has set December 31, 2025 as the final date to intimate Aadhaar for those allotted PAN using an Aadhaar enrolment ID filed before October 1, 2024.
  • From January 1, 2026, PANs not linked to Aadhaar will be inoperative, halting refunds, blocking TDS/TCS credits in Form 26AS, and preventing Form 15G/15H submissions.
  • Higher withholding applies on non-linked PANs under sections 206AA and 206CC, with likely disruptions to KYC-based services at banks, mutual funds, and brokers.
  • Linking and status checks are available to both registered and unregistered users on the e-filing portal via the Quick Link option, with Aadhaar OTP validation and an e‑Pay Tax flow where fees apply.
  • PAN holders who obtained their PAN after October 1, 2024 using an Aadhaar enrolment ID are exempt from the fee until the deadline, while others face a ₹1,000 late fee and can resolve data mismatches via UIDAI, Protean or UTIITSL, including biometric verification at PAN centres.
