Final 48-Metre Steel Span Installed at Kapurbawadi as Metro Line 4 Nears Completion

Completing this girder run secures the corridor’s readiness for Phase 1 trials next month.

Overview

  • The MMRDA placed a 48 m, 325 t steel span at Kapurbawadi Junction over two nights, marking the last special-span installation between Majiwada and Kasarvadavali.
  • Contractors deployed 700- and 550-tonne cranes supported by backup equipment and a team of over 100 engineers to lift the girders without halting traffic on Ghodbunder Road.
  • This milestone pushes overall work to 84.5% completion and keeps Phase 1 commissioning on track for upcoming trial runs.
  • Metro Line 4’s 32.32 km elevated corridor with 32 stations will link Wadala to Kasarvadavali via key suburbs including Chembur, Ghatkopar, Mulund and Thane.
  • Once operational, the route is projected to cut east-west commute times by up to 75% and connect seamlessly with Lines 2B, 5 and 6 plus other transit networks.
