The filmmakers aim for unprecedented realism using restored boats, elite rowers in the seats, with cameras mounted on the shells.

Für den Film über den Olympia-Sieg müssen die Schauspieler dreimal so viel futtern.

Overview

  • Principal photography is underway on the Küchensee in Ratzeburg, which is standing in for Rome’s Lago Albano, and the Olympic final sprint sequence has already been shot.
  • Oliver Masucci leads as coach Karl Adam under director Hannu Salonen and producer Ivo Beck, consulting on set with Klaus Bittner, the last surviving member of the 1960 eight, who visited wearing his gold medal.
  • The production mixes professional athletes with actors to capture authentic rowing, employing close-up rigs on and around the boats for perspectives not previously shown on film.
  • Five original eight-oared shells were found in poor condition and restored by Ratzeburg boatbuilder Lingolf von Lingelsheim for use in the film.
  • Ratzeburg supported the shoot with a roughly ten-day lake closure enforced by police, with additional location work planned near Bratislava and a theatrical release targeted for autumn 2026.
