The crash claimed the life of 63-year-old vegetable vendor Aminur Rahman and left six others injured, two of whom remain in critical condition.
Police confirmed both Das and his co-passenger, Shriya Basu, were intoxicated at the time of the incident, following a late-night celebration at a local pub.
The car broke through barricades in a market area restricted for road construction and came to a stop after colliding with a parked scooter.
