Fifty Issuers Object to OKXICE Tokenized Stock Plan

A surge of formal objections has pared down the venture’s candidate list and raised urgent doubts about custody, liquidity, investor protections, and market-data integration.

Overview

  • OKXICE disclosed in an October 30 public notice that 50 companies, including Nvidia, Nike, Costco, Micron and Reddit, have filed timely objections that bar OKXICE from offering unaffiliated tokenized versions of those firms’ shares under the SEC exemption.
  • The objections have erased most of the original 62-company slate and left the joint OKX–ICE venture pre-launch with no confirmed trading date.
  • Under the SEC’s temporary Innovation Exemption, the venue must back each token one-for-one with underlying shares, stop token trading when the cash market is halted, and obey volume caps that limit daily token trading to 0.25% for leading Tier 1 names and 2.5% for other eligible securities.
  • OKXICE’s proposed system would run 24/7 trades through permissioned Uniswap v4 automated market‑maker pools on OKX’s XLayer and settle in stablecoins rather than using a traditional order book, a design that regulators and issuers say leaves open how voting, dividends, custody protections and price discovery would work.
  • With issuer objections growing and Nasdaq developing an issuer-led tokenization alternative, the next steps to watch are how custody and SIPC treatment will be clarified, whether consolidated market-data and surveillance links will be built, and if OKXICE can secure enough non‑objecting listings to launch and scale in the U.S.
