Overview

  • Fife Council approved additional 20mph speed limits across multiple towns and villages in North East Fife following requests from local communities.
  • New limits will cover the A917 through Elie, Pittenweem, Anstruther and Cellardyke, the B913 St Andrews Road in Anstruther and both Cupar Road and Kirk Road in Newport.
  • Cllr. Jonny Tepp said evidence shows a pedestrian struck at 20mph is far less likely to suffer serious or fatal injuries and that lower speeds give drivers more time to react.
  • Elie’s High Street will gain a limited waiting parking restriction from 9 am to 6 pm, Monday to Saturday, allowing one-hour stays with no return within the hour to improve access to shops.
  • The rollout supports the Scottish Government’s initiative to make 20mph the default limit on all appropriate urban roads by the end of 2025.
