Overview
- FIFA's council confirmed on Thursday, October 22, 2026, that the United States will stage the inaugural women's Club World Cup from 5–30 January 2028 with 16 teams.
- Clubs will qualify based on their results in each confederation's top club competition across the 2024–2027 window, with UEFA awarded five direct spots plus a play-in place.
- The January schedule is expected to force longer winter breaks for top European leagues such as the Bundesliga because clubs will release players during the tournament.
- Qatar had been reported as an interested host but the council instead assigned Qatar late-2026 intercontinental fixtures, while the U.S. won the Club World Cup bid on grounds of infrastructure and event experience.
- At the same meeting FIFA approved raising preparation contributions for the 2027 Women's World Cup in Brazil to $2.5 million and committed to providing women the same services that were delivered to men in 2026.
