FIFA Launches Record Volunteer Drive for 2026 World Cup

Organizers are recruiting 65,000 unpaid volunteers across North America in roles spanning 23 functional areas, using Volunteer Team Tryouts in October followed by training in March.

While there is no set deadline to apply for a volunteer FIFA position, the city is encouraging people to apply early.

Overview

  • Applications opened on Aug. 11 through FIFA’s volunteer portal alongside local host committee campaigns in cities including Boston and Toronto.
  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, commit to eight shifts between June 11 and July 19, 2026, and meet background check and language requirements.
  • Successful applicants will be invited to Volunteer Team Tryouts beginning in October 2025, with formal training scheduled for March 2026.
  • Roles will span 23 functional areas at stadiums, training sites, airports, hotels and fan zones across 16 host cities.
  • Toronto aims to recruit about 3,000 volunteers while Boston’s committee seeks thousands more, with all positions unpaid and travel and lodging arranged by volunteers.
