Overview

  • Arjun Erigaisi and reigning world champion D Gukesh have been seeded first and second for the fourth FIDE Grand Swiss running September 3–16 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan
  • A 30-game participation rule for July 2024–June 2025 has barred former champions Magnus Carlsen and Viswanathan Anand from the field
  • The event will use an 11-round Swiss format across a 172-player roster split between 116 in the Open section and 56 in the Women’s section
  • Open prize funds have risen to USD 625,000 and the Women’s purse to USD 230,000 following FIDE’s decision to expand the financial awards
  • The top two finishers in both the Open and Women’s competitions will secure spots in the 2026 Candidates tournament
