Fiat Starts Production of 500 Hybrid, a Cheaper Rework of the 500e Platform

The model trades speed for a low-cost mild-hybrid setup to quickly restore Fiat’s city-car lineup.

Overview

  • Fiat re-engineered the electric-only 500e architecture to accept a 1.0-litre three-cylinder mild-hybrid rated at 48 kW with a 12V lithium-ion system and a six-speed manual.
  • Production has begun at Mirafiori alongside the 500e, with 5,000 cars planned this year and a target of roughly 100,000 annually.
  • Performance is modest at 0–100 km/h in 16.2 seconds for the hatch and 17.3 seconds for the convertible, with a 150 km/h top speed and about 5.3 L/100 km fuel use.
  • The strategy follows a steep 500e sales decline in 2024 and the EU withdrawal of the previous petrol 500 due to cybersecurity rules.
  • Pricing is unannounced, with reporting indicating the Hybrid should undercut the 500e by at least £5,000.
