FIA Reverses Call on SainzLawson Clash, Removes Superlicense Points

The race-time 10-second sanction stays on the Dutch GP result after stewards reclassified the Turn 1 contact as a racing incident.

Overview

  • Williams secured a review by presenting new, significant evidence including Sainz’s 360-degree on-board, Lawson’s rear camera footage and the driver’s testimony.
  • The stewards’ revised finding states no driver was wholly or predominantly to blame, designating the Zandvoort Turn 1 contact as an incident of the race.
  • The two penalty points applied to Carlos Sainz’s superlicense were withdrawn, leaving him on two points and reducing immediate disciplinary risk below the 12-point ban threshold.
  • The 10-second penalty served during the race cannot be retroactively altered, so the classification is unchanged with Sainz finishing 14th, 17 seconds behind Lawson.
  • Williams welcomed the correction in an official statement and urged continued work with the FIA to strengthen stewarding decision-making and rule reviews.
