Overview

  • In an August 22 statement, the FIA said GPBlog comments attributed to GPDA chairman Alexander Wurz misrepresented regulations and that aerodynamic modifications to karts are not permitted.
  • The FIA cited Article 4.6 banning alterations to floor trays, Article 3.2 prohibiting changes to homologated bodywork, and Homologation Article 22 requiring air-blow moulding that prevents adjustable aero features.
  • Only FIA‑approved components are allowed, with homologated bodywork subject to FIA-standard crash tests, a numbering system across five approved manufacturers, and scrutineering to enforce compliance.
  • The FIA called safety concerns baseless, noted 2025 rule updates that strengthen protections, and said a new karting safety device initiative will be released shortly.
  • Motorsport Week reported the FIA intends to seek a retraction of the claims, while the body highlighted its Global Karting Plan and the November FIA Karting Arrive and Drive World Cup using standardised karts to promote parity.
