FIA Busts Islamabad Placenta Processing Network

Seized samples are now at PIMS for forensic testing as investigators probe alleged mislabelled exports to Vietnam.

Overview

  • FIA and the Human Organ Transplant Authority carried out raids that, on June 24, uncovered a covert processing site in Sector F-7/1 and prompted the arrest of five suspects.
  • Interrogation led officers to a linked facility in Sector E-11 where refrigerators, processing equipment and additional biological material were recovered and two more workers were detained.
  • Investigators seized large quantities of fresh, dried and processed placenta along with packaging and machinery, and moved all suspects to undisclosed locations for further questioning.
  • The agency has named three Chinese nationals among the detainees and has registered criminal cases under the Human Organs and Tissues Transplantation Act while sending samples to PIMS for forensic confirmation.
  • Officials say the material was allegedly being mislabelled as sheep organs for export to Vietnam for possible pharmaceutical use, and authorities are tracing sources, facilitators and international links as the probe continues.
