- The FIA has approved plans for Kyalami circuit to upgrade to Grade 1 status, the only certification that allows hosting of Formula 1 world championship events.
- Designed by UK-based Apex Circuit Design, the five-year upgrade plan focuses on run-off areas, barrier and debris fencing, kerbs and drainage without altering the existing layout.
- Kyalami circuit, which last hosted a Grand Prix in 1993, now has three years to complete the required works to meet FIA standards.
