FIA Approves Kyalami Circuit’s Grade 1 Upgrade to Bring F1 Back to South Africa

Circuit owners have a three-year window to complete the safety upgrades required for Grade 1 certification

  • FIA sign-off makes Kyalami eligible to host Formula 1 races once the required works are finished
  • Designs by Apex Circuit Design enhance run-off areas, barriers, debris fencing, kerbs and drainage without altering the track layout
  • Owner Toby Venter hailed the approval as a pivotal step in restoring Kyalami as a premier African motorsport venue
  • The circuit last staged a Grand Prix in 1993 after hosting 21 races between 1967 and 1993
