Overview

  • A survey of more than 9,000 educators found 67% worry at least one pupil will go hungry during the summer holidays due to unaffordable meals.
  • Teachers in the most deprived areas report up to six children at risk per class, compared with just 4% of those in wealthier neighbourhoods.
  • The Felix Project estimates as many as 98,000 London children could face holiday hunger and has seen demand surge during school breaks.
  • To meet rising needs, the charity will keep 28 London schools open for large-scale rescued food distributions over the summer.
  • The UK government has confirmed plans to extend free school meals to all households on universal credit and maintain funding for holiday activity clubs.
