Overview
- Alberto Núñez Feijóo sent a notarized record to the Catarroja court with WhatsApp messages he received from Carlos Mazón about the 29 October 2024 floods and asked to testify by videoconference on 9 January.
- The submission excluded Feijóo’s own replies, with the PP arguing the judge had not requested them, prompting calls from parties and victims’ groups for the complete conversation.
- Feijóo acknowledged it was an error to claim he was informed “in real time,” as the disclosed messages span 20:08 to 23:29 and include Mazón’s notes on UME deployment, criticism of the crisis cabinet, and early reports of deaths in Utiel.
- Government spokesperson Elma Saiz said the messages show Feijóo “lied for a year” and urged his resignation, while PSPV-PSOE and Compromís demanded full disclosure and his appearance before judicial and parliamentary bodies.
- Victims’ associations condemned the Christmas Eve timing and the partial nature of the handover as disrespectful to families and pressed the judge to require Feijóo to appear in person.
