Overview
- The collision was reported around 3:45 a.m. on the northbound 5 just south of the 118 Freeway in Pacoima.
- One trailer split open and a cab spun out, blocking middle lanes as packages spilled across rain-soaked pavement.
- Authorities issued a full SigAlert that shut all northbound lanes and backed up traffic on the 5, 118 and nearby 405 Freeways.
- Heavy-duty tow trucks and cleanup crews were deployed to remove the damaged rigs and clear debris to reopen lanes.
- Officials have not identified a cause, and the National Weather Service projects continued heavy rain through Friday.
