Overview
- Federal prosecutor Gerardo Pollicita formally launched an investigation into alleged illicit enrichment by Claudio 'Chiqui' Tapia, asking Judge Ariel Lijo to authorize a suite of evidentiary measures.
- Pollicita requested roughly 15–20 measures, including lifting bank, tax and securities secrecy, UIF reports, migration records, crypto-provider information, property and vehicle registries, and an international exhorto to CONMEBOL to obtain employment and payment records.
- The probe stems from an April complaint by businessman Guillermo Tofoni that Tapia's declared patrimony rose nearly 1,000% between 2017 and 2024 while Tapia held roles at CEAMSE and in South American football bodies.
- Tapia's team rejects the accusations and has signaled possible legal action against the complainant; the Fiscalía has not sought arrests or raids and no formal imputations have been made at this stage.
- If Judge Lijo authorizes the requests the prosecutor will gather documents and commission a specialized patrimonial, economic and financial report to decide whether the evidence warrants criminal charges, a step that could affect oversight of CEAMSE and public trust in football institutions.
