Federal Probe Launched After Multiple Assaults on Bavarian Trains and Stations

Police opened criminal investigations after routine fare checks and a service‑desk dispute escalated into violent confrontations involving irritant spray, bystander restraint and high blood‑alcohol readings.

Overview

  • A 43-year-old man attacked fellow passengers on Regionalexpress RE 41 and later in Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof on Friday, Oct. 2, and a private Bundespolizist together with two civilian Feldjäger held him until officers arrived.
  • A judge issued an arrest warrant and the suspect in the Oct. 2 incidents is now in pre-trial detention on suspicion of bodily harm.
  • A fare inspection on Monday, Oct. 5 on S-Bahn line S1 between Erlangen-Bruck and Erlangen escalated when a 24-year-old allegedly strangled a 22-year-old DB security employee and a 46-year-old colleague used an irritant spray to stop the attack, leaving staff treated in hospital and both the passenger and the security worker under investigation.
  • Also on Oct. 5 at Regensburg Hauptbahnhof a heavily intoxicated 25-year-old allegedly insulted and assaulted DB staff after a dispute over a found smartphone, a breath test read 1.96‰, and federal police have opened inquiries for insult and bodily harm.
  • Bundespolizeiinspektion Nürnberg has asked unknown victims and witnesses from the Nuremberg cases to contact investigators and the sequence of incidents has raised fresh questions about safety, alcohol-related aggression and how DB security and police manage confrontations on trains and at service points.
