Overview
- From October 1 to 27, the Bundespolizei will enforce a month‑long ban on carrying knives, pepper spray, brass knuckles and similar items at major Berlin rail hubs and Potsdam Hauptbahnhof under an Allgemeinverfügung that permits suspicionless checks.
- The prohibition applies daily from 14:00 to 04:00, with officers able to confiscate items and impose coercive fines, while U‑Bahn areas remain outside federal jurisdiction.
- Targeted stations include Hauptbahnhof, Alexanderplatz, Zoologischer Garten, Ostkreuz, Südkreuz, Spandau, Gesundbrunnen, Friedrichstraße, Lichtenberg, Warschauer Straße, Jungfernheide, Wedding, Neukölln and Hermannstraße.
- A Berlin Senate ordinance in force since July 17 already forbids carrying dangerous objects across public transport and all stations, providing the legal backdrop for the federal action.
- In a parallel push, Bremen police reported night checks around Bremer Hauptbahnhof with more than 140 people searched, nine dispersal orders, seizures of weapons, drugs, cash and stolen IDs, and an arrest after a bottle assault, with further overt and covert controls planned.
