Federal Police Raid La Paternal Bodegón, Seize 160kg of Wild Meat

The raid follows a months-long federal probe designed to disrupt illicit wildlife supply chains under national conservation laws.

Overview

  • On July 6, the Policía Federal’s Federal Investigations Department executed a judicially authorized raid on a La Paternal bodegón suspected of trafficking protected wildlife.
  • Officers confiscated 160kg of unlabelled meat from species including capybara, wild boar, yacaré, partridge and deer hidden in freezers and display refrigerators.
  • The Brigada de Control Ambiental de Fauna Nacional ordered a preventive closure of the venue and the proprietor has been formally notified of environmental charges.
  • Three deer meat samples were collected for specialized genetic testing to determine if they belong to the endangered swamp deer (Blastocerus dichotomus).
  • All seized material was transferred to CEAMSE for final disposal under established protocols for hazardous organic waste.
