Federal Police Impose Holiday Weapons-Carry Ban at Major Bavarian Rail Hubs

The order aims to deter violence during the busy holiday travel period following recent station assaults.

Overview

  • From November 28 at 06:00 to January 4 at 24:00, carrying weapons and dangerous objects is temporarily banned at key stations across Bavaria.
  • Locations include the main stations in Munich, Aschaffenburg, Augsburg, Nuremberg, Regensburg and Würzburg, plus Munich Ostbahnhof, Pasing and the S‑Bahn stops Marienplatz and Karlsplatz (Stachus).
  • The prohibition covers firearms, blank-firing guns, pepper spray, impact and stabbing weapons and all types of knives, with exceptions for duty use and necessary work tools.
  • The rules apply to all publicly accessible station areas, and they restrict carrying on one’s person; transporting items in a closed bag or luggage is permitted under the order.
  • Police will monitor compliance, post signage, confiscate prohibited items and can threaten compulsory fines of up to €25,000 or issue area bans, with the move following similar measures previously used in Hamburg.
